By now you’ve probably noticed I’m a huge fan of games that let you snap pictures of adorable animals or creatures like upcoming indies Pupperazzi and The Good Life. I even recently spoke of Eastshade, a game where you’re a traveling painter, that I played and adored on the PS4.
Now, ever since Nintendo surprisingly announced a new Pokemon Snap for the Switch, my anxiousness for games with photography is renewed. So I’ve gone on a search for new indie games coming this year or the next and compiled a list below!
NUTS is a single-player surveillance mystery set in a remote forest. Record the squirrels, report your findings, and uncover the secret that the curious creatures are hiding. Published by Noodlecake, NUTS is releasing sometime in 2021 on Steam. Moreover, you can try out the demo for free now. I’ve had a chance to try it out and I just loved how peaceful the nature and music made me feel.
Beasts of Maravilla Island
Embark on your adventure as an aspiring wildlife photographer in the hidden, magic jungles of Maravilla Island. Explore a mysterious 3D island and solve puzzles in order to discover extraordinary creatures, interact with them in their natural habitat, and photograph the enchanting, unique behaviors you reveal! It’s currently on Kickstarter (surpassed its goal) by Banana Bird Studios for PC and the Switch.
Penko Park is a game about exploring an abandoned wildlife park. Meet its mysterious inhabitants by taking photos and interacting with the world! Developed by Ghostbutter, Penko Park is releasing sometime in 2020 on Steam here. These creatures are a little more spooky-looking but it’s always fun to be surprised by the discoveries of fantastical characters.
Knowing that these games will be playable soon has me super excited so I’ll be sure to update with more specific release dates when they’re announced!
