Steam Early Access is a great way to play games before their complete release date. With plenty of things to do, although unrefined, you can get a feel for the basics of the game. Furthermore, you can even get involved as game development progresses by letting the creators know of any bug fixes or general changes you’d like to see made. Below is a list my favorite city-building simulation games that are currently on Steam Early Access!
The world has already been saved. Now it’s time to rebuild your town, learn new hobbies, and forge lifelong friendships in this peaceful and relaxing RPG.
This adorable pixel game is created by solo indie developer Sean Young and has farming, crafting, exploration, a tarott card game, and more! Technically it’s only in Early Access for another day and then, as of August 4th, 2020, you’ll be able to play the full version! The developer also has plans to bring this game to the Nintendo Switch.
Foundation is a grid-less, sprawling medieval city building simulation with a heavy focus on organic development, monument construction and resource management. Meaning, its building design allows original free-form monuments for you to place anywhere!
Created by Polymorph Games, Foundation allows you to be as creative as you want to be. Moreover, the game’s unique building tools are a result of the developer’s proprietary game engine, Hurricane. Try it out on Steam Early Access here!
The floating garbage town survival game! Scavenge what precious garbage you can from the ocean’s surface and grow your city while doing your best to survive in this colorful post-apocalyptic world.
Flotsam is created by Pajama Llama Games and is on Steam Early Access here. This unique building sim is all about staying alive by recycling items to craft, creating desalination machines for fresh water, and more!
Build quaint island towns with curvy streets. Build small hamlets, soaring cathedrals, canal networks, or sky cities on stilts. Block by block.
That’s it. This relaxing game created by solo indie developer Oskar Stålberg, algorithm automatically turn those blocks into cute little houses, arches, stairways, bridges and lush backyards, depending on their configuration. If you’re looking for a very casual town-builder, check out Townscaper on Steam Early Access here.
If you’re more of the farming-type on a tropical island, check out this article here: Summer in Mara is Coming Soon to Steam and Switch.
