During the Nintendo Direct Mini on March 26th, 2020, Nintendo gave us a deeper look into JRPG Bravely Default II. This is the third installment of the series as Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer were both released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2012 and 2016 respectively. Both previous games were developed by Silicon Studio, published by Square Enix (Team Asano) in Japan, and Nintendo worldwide. It appears for this latest installment, the Japanese game studio Claytechworks will be the developers.
We know that Square Enix loves to confuse us all with their sequel titles because the only similarity in terms of gameplay will be the battle system. The story will take place on a brand new continent called Excillant, home to five mighty kingdoms. You play as new character Seth, a young sailor that washes up on the shores of one of those kingdoms. Seth soon meets Gloria, a princess forced to flee her kingdom which was destroyed by those that wanted to steal its crystals. Your other party member are a traveling scholar Elvis and a mercenary named Adelle.
This time around, players will need to obtain Asterisks from defeating enemies. They are gems that allow you to switch jobs, where you can even combine 2 of them to be all the more powerful. Bravely Default II will be coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020. However, there’s an available free demo out now!
